There are various freight ferry routes available from the UK to the Scandinavian countries. In this guide, we’ll help you find the best one for your business.
UK to Denmark
The only direct route from the UK to Denmark is Immingham to Esbjerg with DFDS. There are six crossings per week with each crossing taking approximately 21 hours.
Berth in a shared cabin, en suite bathroom facilities and complimentary meals are provided on this crossing.
After arriving at the Port of Esbjerg, it’s just a 3 hour drive to Copenhagen.
Alternatively, you can get to Denmark by using other eastern UK port links to Europe and then driving North. Dover to Copenhagen is around 720 miles with a 13 hour drive.
To transport your goods between Dover and Europe, you can transport via Calais or Dunkerque ,or into Calais from Folkestone.
UK to Norway
There are three ways to transport your goods from the UK into Norway via freight ferry.
Firstly, you can transport your goods from the UK to France. Once you have arrived at either Dunkerque or Calais (via freight ferry or Eurotunnel), you can arrange for your goods to be driven the rest of the way.

Secondly, you can transport your goods directly into Norway from the UK with the DFDS route Immingham to Brevik.
There are two crossings per week with each crossing taking from 26 hours, depending on the time of departure. A berth in a shared cabin, en suite bathroom facilities and complimentary meals are provided. Brevik is around 2 hours from Norway’s capital city, Oslo.
Thirdly, you can transport your goods unaccompanied with Sea-Cargo. From Immingham, Sea-Cargo run three routes with a combined total of 5+ crossings per week. These will take your goods to Bergen, Haugesund and Tananger.

UK to Sweden
The only direct route from the UK to Denmark is Immingham to Gothenburg with DFDS.
There are six crossings per week with each crossing taking from 26 hours, depending on the time of departure. A berth in a shared cabin, en suite bathroom facilities and complimentary meals are provided.
Gothenburg is around 5 hours from Sweden’s capital, Stockholm.
Alternatively, you can get to Sweden by using other eastern UK port links to Europe and then driving north through Europe. Dover to Stockholm is around 1120 miles with a 20 hour drive.
