"When drivers are approaching Fishguard from the North, please be aware of the restricted access along the A487 through Lower Town Fishguard. HGVs must not use this route.
HGV traffic should instead turn left down the B4329 at Eglwyswrw. Should drivers miss this junction, there is a turning circle provided and there are clear signs in place warning of the narrow road and bridge ahead.
There is an enforceable penalty for disobeying the restriction if it leads to road closure.
We’re aware that there has been an increase in traffic through Fishguard since the closure of Holyhead Port, and many drivers may not be familiar with the route. Unfortunately, the A487 through Lower Town has been blocked at least once this past week. HGVs on this road pose a serious safety risk, disruption for the local community and access issues for emergency services.
We would appreciate if you could pass this message onto your drivers using Fishguard Port.
Thank you for your cooperation."
