You may have read our earlier article “What to Expect From the GB-EU Border Operating Model”, which explained what the GB-EU border model would look like and explored what the Kent Access Permit (KAP) entailed. Now that those plans are in place, we want to help you through the process.
What is the Kent Access Permit?
The KAP is an integral part of customs procedures when travelling to the EU in a vehicle over 7.5t via the port of Folkestone or Dover. The KAP ensures that all of your customs documentation is complete before you get to the port. This is done to prevent blockages and standstill traffic in Kent from hauliers whose documentation isn’t complete.
Arranging your Kent Access Permit
We know that all of this additional documentation and paperwork is frustrating, that’s why Freightlink are offering a service to help you arrange your KAP for you.
When you buy a freight ferry ticket from Freightlink and will be travelling via the port of Dover or Folkestone terminal, you can choose to add a Kent Access Permit Ticket to your booking for an additional £5 / €6 EUR. Provided you have all of the other relevant paperwork for customs procedures, Freightlink will arrange your Kent Access Permit for you!
