Piraeus ferry port is the port of Athens, around 12km from the city centre. The port of Piraeus is the largest passenger port in Europe, serving around 20 million passengers a year. The central part of the port serves ferry routes to islands in the eastern part of Greece, the northern and eastern Aegean Sea and to Heraklion on Crete. The western part of the port is used for cargo services, it handles over 20,000,000 tonnes of cargo yearly it is responsible for a 7 million euro income a year for freight alone.
